The dimension of the problem | |||
Pain is a great problem for children and for their parents, too.
Children, when they are ill, and particularly when they are
affected by a serious disease, suffer from various types of pain:
- Pain caused by the pathology itself; - Pain caused by medical procedures; - Pain caused by collateral effects of the treatment. Pain caused by the pathology can be very strong and sometimes it remains until the disease itself is treated and/or cured. Pain caused by invasive procedures and by collateral effects of the treatment is a strong and repetitive kind of pain, sometimes more important and more frightening than the disease itself. All children, and even more so, ill children, must be defended from pain and from the damages, often irreversible, that pain may cause. |
